Happy Clients - Testimonials

I just wanted to say how pleased I was with the fantastic job you guys at Golf Holidays International a proud member of Goldman Travel Corporation did in co-ordinating my “once in a life time golf holiday”. The whole thing was simply awesome!! Right from the bookings – including golf, hotels, tours etc. – the whole thing just worked, which is quite impressive given my trip made the planning around the invasion of a country pale into insignificance! So say a big thank you from me to your whole team, but in particular Kim and Catherine – fantastic job guys!

Just some of the highlights:

  • Watching Tiger make 8 birdies at Pebble Beach on the third day of the US Open and rubbing shoulders with such luminaries as Danny Glover (of Lethal Weapon fame).
  • Playing Pebble Beach on its opening day straight after the Open and convincing the starter that Peter and I must hit-off the black tees – because we are seriously great golfers (No, they didn’t laugh but let us! Thank God I nailed my drive 260 up the first).
  • On the day of playing Pebble, Peter simply said, and this sums it up, I wish this day would never end!
  • Playing golf with David and Peter at Torrey Pines – south course which represented our reunion game for which it has taken some 25 years to come to fruition. That was pretty special. Playing Ballybunion with a caddie, where I continually hit fantastic tee shots, only to still walk off most holes with a double-bogey.
  • Driving to Waterville golf club from Killarney where I noticed that the scenery on the drive was the most spectacular I have ever seen in my life, only to be told later that the road I had been on – which was nothing more than an annoyance to me was in fact the legendary Ring of Kerry – which people go to Ireland just to experience.
  • Druid’s Glen was very pretty and I now know why some people refer to it as the Augusta of Europe – it has flowers, hills, water hazards before the par 3’s etc. etc.
  • Staying at Turnberry Hotel – what a fantastic hotel! The most disappointing part of the trip was playing Turnberry in an unbelievable storm. The wind was so strong, so strong – that I drove the famous 18th hole – Oh only about 385 yards!
  • Prestwick golf club – what a bizarre place. You just have to play to find out how much of a joker that Old Tom Morris really was!
  • One of the surprising highlights of the whole trip was staying at Royal Troon for 3 days. What a quaint and interesting village Troon is – a place I look forward to going back some time in the not too distant future.
  • I found Edinburgh a quite fascinating place but so old in terms of the city architecture! One of the highlights there was our attempt to hunt down an Australian bar and as we approached we heard, what we thought was Rod Stewart music blaring out of it. As we entered we could no longer hear the music. On the contrary, what we could hear was in fact Rod Stewart playing live at the Edinburgh Castle – that was pretty cool.
  • Your recommendation around Western Gailles was absolutely on the money. What an impressive course – everything a links course should be. The Manager of the club – an Australian from my own suburb of East Bentleigh - I think hunted me down and introduced himself before I hit off.
  • The British Open was great and really enjoyed catching the train each day from Edinburgh to St Andrews. The history of St Andrews is always quite mind numbing, but I must say I found the scale of it, noticeably smaller than the US Open - must have something to do with that population base of some 50 million in California.
  • Finally, If you didn’t think I was a golf enthusiast before, you will now, as on my last day rather than just kicking back in Edinburgh I went and booked myself another round of golf at Gullane No. 2 – because after 25 rounds of golf on some of the best courses on the planet across three different countries, this was simply just not enough. After I finished my final round I had a teary ceremony for my golf shoes which I discarded in the club-house (as I didn’t want to go through all the quarantine nonsense coming back into Australia), involving me leaving some Australian coins inside them so they would never forget where they came from!

It was simply an awesome trip one which I could never repeat in the same way again.
